MANILA, Philippines - At least 19 areas were placed under Storm Signal No. 1 as tropical depression "Lawin" continued to move closer towards Central Luzon Tuesday night.
The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said "Lawin" was 90 km north-northwest of Virac, Catanduanes or 140 km east of Polilio Island as of 10 p.m.
Pagasa also warned of possible flash floods and landslides in Southern Luzon, Visayas and Western Mindanao.
It said "Lawin" packed maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center and was moving west-northwest at 17 kph.
Pagasa said "Lawin" was expected to make landfall over Aurora Wednesday
afternoon, and be in the vicinity of Baguio City Wednesday evening.
By Thursday evening it is expected to be 340 km west-northwest of
Baguio City. By Friday evening it is expected to be 670 km northwest of
Baguio City or 580 km west-northwest of Laoag City.
Under Storm Signal No. 1 were Catanduanes, Camarines Norte,
Camarines Sur, Albay, Burias Island, Quezon, Polilio Island,
Marinduque, Laguna, Rizal, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya, Eastern
Pangasinan, Benguet, Ifugao, Quirino, Aurora, and Southern Isabela.
Pagasa warned "Lawin" will enhance the southwest monsoon and bring
rains over Southern Luzon, Visayas and Western Mindanao which may
trigger flashfloods and landslides.
