ALAMINOS CITY – Alaminos Mayor Hernani Braganza has launched the promotion of propane-powered motorboats to improve the air quality off the Hundred Islands National Park and ensure a healthy atmosphere for the residents and tourists.
He spearheaded the conversion of engines of motorboats plying the
Hundred Islands to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to reduce fewer
pollutants and improve the air quality without harming the global
environment.
He cited the result of an emission test done on an LPG-run tricycle in
December last year, saying the vehicle emitted 0.187 percent of carbon
monoxide, way below the allowable limit of six percent set by the
government.
Hydrocarbon emission of the converted tricycle was 6,600 parts per
million (ppm) against the gasoline-fuelled vehicle’s 12,000 ppm limit.
“The use of LPG would help improve our air quality without harming the
global environment. Boats would emit cleaner air,” Braganza said.
During the launching, he led a test run of a city government-owned
motorboat to determine the efficiency rate of LPG as a source of energy
for transportation.
